How To Setup Awesome Miner For Nvidia & AMD

This how-to is intended for people with moderate computer prowess. Awesome Miner can be configured for AMD GPU and nVidia GPU mining with ease. CPU mining takes more effort and will be a future article.
The free version allows two workers only and does group multiple GPUs under the same profile. Meaning if you have multiple AMD GPUs or multiple nVidia GPUs they would be under the same worker. If you had an AMD GPU(s) and an nVidia GPU(s) they would be separate workers and not shared.
If you would like to mine with two types of GPUs and a CPU you will need to purchase the standard edition for ~$35 USD.
Download Awesome Miner
You can download Awesome Miner directly from their download page. You only need to download the Awesome Miner Installer for this article. The only other software you will need is a Bitcoin Wallet. I recommend Exodus.io for Bitcoin wallet. You can also mine directly to an exchange.
Mining Pools
Awesome Miner comes configured with several different pools. Each pool requires either a bitcoin wallet address or logging into the pool website for setup. The pools that use Bitcoin addresses typically do not require logging in. To access your mining information on that pool’s website you only enter your Bitcoin address. This is the easiest setup if you only want payout in Bitcoin. For simplicity I recommend starting with Bitcoin payout and do your homework for alternate coins and how to change the command line if you desire pool payout in alternate coins.
- Nicehash: Requires Bitcoin wallet (Currently down)
- Zpool: Requires Bitcoin wallet
- Mining Pool Hub: Requires login for account setup (Bitcoin wallet or other coin wallet required for payouts) For mining and payout with alternative coins this pool is my reccomendations
- GranatGas: Requires Bitcoin wallet
- Hash Refinery: Requires Bitcoin wallet
- Custom Pools: Requirements specific to pool terms and conditions.
Setting Up Awesome Miner
- You should already have Awesome Miner downloaded so simple double click the install file and follow the steps to successfully install Awesome Miner like below:
- Click “Next”
- Here you need to make a decision on the type of miner.
- External Miner: This will more than likely not apply to you if you are reading this article.
- Managed Miner: Allows the user to set how and what they want to mine using Awesome Miner to control switching operations based on user input. If you want to mine specific coins this may be the best option.
- Managed Profit Miner: Will automatically choose the most profitable coins to mine. If you are using Bitcoin payout then this may be the best choice for you.
- Network Scan: This will more than likely not apply to you if you are reading this article.
- In this article I will cover selecting Managed Profit Miner
- Select either “AMD GPU” or “nVidia GPU”. If you would like to mine with a CPU then you will need to go through the Managed Miner setup which is not covered in this article.
- Next you will be prompted for Pool setup so enter your Bitcoin address or worker information.
- Click “Next” to complete.
- Note: By selecting the checkbox next to each pool you will change between pools based on profitability. This could prevent payment based on minimum payout value, meaning if you split your mining on three pools and each requires 0.01 BTC it could take a while to accumulate enough funds for payout. I typically stick with one pool at a time to reduce fees and decrease time between payments.
- For Mining Pool Hub you will need to name your worker when you setup in Mining Pool Hub. Your entry in the worker name will be Your Account Name with a period then worker name with a colon then your password. For example your login name is “Hashpwr” and your worker name is “megamine” and your password is “x” you would enter “Hashpwr.megamine:x” into the Mining Pool Hub worker name.
- Click “Finish” and we are almost there!
- Now that you have completed the setup you will need to benchmark. This will allow the software to select the best algorithm to mine based on your systems hash rate. To benchmark select the “Tool” tab then click on “Benchmark” (clock symbol). Select the profit switching profile you wish to benchmark (AMD GPU or nVidia GPU) and the GPU or combined GPU’s. I would recommend clicking “Select All” at the bottom to benchmark each algorithm available. Then select “fast benchmark” or “precise benchmark” your choice. I tried both and didn’t see any large differences between each. Finally click start at the bottom of the screen. If you have set up multiple profiles you will need to repeat this process for each profit switching profile. This will take some time to go through each. When complete return to the “Main” tab.
