This morning I woke up to my xmr-stak-cpu application file missing and Windows Defender had alerted to me that they flagged it as a virus. This is irritating but something I kind of expected would happen at some point.

The solution is simple:

  1. Open the folder where you are going to extract xmr-stak-cpu
  2. Open Windows Defender Security Center and click Virus & threat protection settings
  3. Click add or remove exclusions
  4. Click add an exclusion and then select the folder where you are going to extract xmr-stak-cpu

You should now be able to run xmr-stak-cpu with no issues. Happy mining! If this article helped you, consider a donation.
